Christmas Eve Jazz Services – Both the 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. What Child Is This? is the theme of our two evening Christmas Eve Services of Lessons and Carols. The first Lessons and Carols Service was devised by Eric Milner- White of King’s College Cambridge, England for Christmas Eve 1919. The service was innovative and original. Ironically it has become a tradition for many to repeat it yearly unchanged from 1919. What Child is This? is a lessons and carols service devised by Brian Wren and revised by Rev. Linda. It is modern and innovative, like the original was in 1919. It asks, who is this Child and how does Jesus’ story intersect with our stories today? Innovation does not mean that we throw out the old, but we refresh it in a way that helps modern people connect once again to the story of Jesus’ birth. In addition, our services will feature top local jazz musicians playing favorite Christmas tunes alongside traditional hymns. Music Director, Steve Blum, will be featured on the piano as he leads the Jazz Ensemble.
